“Boy, I can’t wait till I PMS so that I can gain 10 pounds, apply countless heating pads to my ever cramping stomach, and take 20 trips to bathroom during an hour long period.”
Said no woman ever. And if you absolutely sure that you have heard this said by a woman before, then she was either lying, being completely sarcastic, or a figment of your imagination because you were on your period, too.
Either way, periods suck. They not only ruin your favorite pair of undies, but they seem to knock on our bathroom door when we least expect them to, even if our periods are regular. Even if we know when the time is coming down to the minute, we are still unprepared. We still have to halt our lives for about our week so that we can pig out on sweets and wonder why the acne we thought we had gotten rid of last month has suddenly returned.
Yet, even periods are a blessing in disguise. They remind us that we can bare life. They remind us of how wonderful the human body is.
Now, that doesn’t mean I will be prancing around in joy whenever my period decides to show up, after all, it still is pretty painful and horrible, but I will be reminded of just how well-oiled the human body is. Who knew that monthly, blood-wrenching horror could actually be a reminder of the beauty of life?
